Fire Is the Oldest Room

Nothing gathers people faster. A fire feature takes the two or three months when the Tennessee Valley evenings turn cool and hands them back to you: football nights in October, s’mores past bedtime, a quiet hour outside in January with a coffee. A well-built fireplace turns a patio from a summer room into a year-round one.

The choice between fireplace and firepit is really a choice about how you gather. A firepit is democratic; everyone faces everyone, and the circle can grow. A masonry fireplace is architecture; it anchors the space, blocks the wind, throws real heat, and looks like it grew out of the house. We build both, in stone and brick that match the home behind them, with proper footings, fireboxes, and draft, because a fireplace is a structure, not a decoration.

Fire rarely stands alone. It pairs naturally with the patio underneath it, the stonework around it, and the kitchen beside it.

Built Here Since 1996

More than a thousand Tennessee Valley projects have taught us exactly what this climate and this clay do to good intentions, and how to build past both. Our crews are licensed and insured, our workmanship carries a one-year written warranty, and when you write to us a real person answers within a day.

How a Fire Feature Comes Together

Walk the site

Placement decides everything: prevailing wind, sight lines from the house, distance from trees and structures.

The design

Drew Treece draws the feature into the landscape around it, matched to your home’s materials, scaled to how many people you actually host.

The build

A project manager runs the masonry crew from footing to final cleaning, and keeps you informed at every stage.

First fire

We walk the finished work together, light it off, and stand behind it with a one-year workmanship warranty.

Fire Feature Questions, Answered

Wood-burning or gas?

Wood gives you the crackle and the ritual; gas gives you instant evenings and no ash. It comes down to how you will really use it, and we will talk it through honestly on the first visit.

Can you add a fireplace to an existing patio?

Usually, yes. A masonry fireplace needs its own footing, so we assess the existing slab and base first and tell you plainly what is possible.

How do you decide where a fire feature goes?

Wind first, then sight lines, then safe clearances from structures and trees. Ten minutes of standing on the site at dusk answers more than any catalog.
