The Craft Beneath the Surface
A patio earns its keep twice: once in the surface you see, and once in the base you never will. North Alabama clay moves with the seasons, so before a single paver is set we build downward. Excavation, compacted stone, a drainage plane that carries water away from your foundation instead of toward it. It is slower this way. It is also why our work stays flat and true while shortcuts heave and settle.
Material sets the character. Travertine stays cool underfoot through an August afternoon. Bluestone brings a quiet formality. Clay pavers age the way brick homes do, better every decade. Stamped and finished concrete gives clean, modern lines at a friendlier budget. Drew Treece, our designer, draws each patio around the house it belongs to, the trees it lives under, and the way you actually plan to use it.

An open rectangle of paving is a surface. Put a fireplace at one end and it becomes a room: the seating arranges itself, and the space has a front and a back.
Travertine was the choice here for a reason worth knowing – it stays cooler underfoot than most pavers in full Alabama sun, which matters on a patio people cross barefoot between the house and the water.
